Using NHGIS Data in a GIS
To use statistical data in a GIS there must be a common field in both the statistical and boundary file data in order to 'merge' the two datasets. NHGIS boundary and statistical data files have a common field, GISJOIN, that was constructed for this purpose. Click here for instructions regarding how to join these files and use them in a GIS.
